The Lantern Room
Pilot Event Proposal for Red River UU Church
The Concept
The Lantern Room is a spoken word and songwriting gathering imagined by members and friends of Red River UU Church. We seek to create a welcoming time and place where people can share their creativity and experience the creativity of others.
Poetry, original songs, literary readings, storytelling, and other appropriate forms of spoken-word performance are welcome.
Proposed Pilot Event
We propose holding the first pilot of The Lantern Room on September 12, 2026, from 7:00–10:00 p.m.
Performances will take place in the chapel, with coffee, tea, and snacks available upstairs in a setup similar to Sunday services.
For this first pilot event, performances will be scheduled in advance. Church attendees and others in our community will be invited to participate by signing up ahead of time. Each performance will be limited to approximately five minutes. A host will introduce performers and help keep the evening moving smoothly.
Our Team
- Curtis — [Role to be determined]
- Brand — Oversight and sound
- Victoria — Sound
- Michael — Host and graphics
- Doug — Environment, drinks, and snacks
- Kristy — Environment and ambiance
Overall Goal
To strengthen community by creating a space where people can share creative experiences together.
What Would Make the Pilot a Success?
The primary purpose of this first event is to learn. Success will mean creating an enjoyable, welcoming experience where people connect with one another and where our team gains useful insight into what works and what could be improved.
Following the pilot, we will evaluate the experience and determine whether The Lantern Room should continue and potentially become a recurring monthly gathering.
