                        Two hundred and fifty years ago, a bold idea was set loose in the world. Not just that a group of colonies could become a nation—but that ordinary people could govern themselves. That power did not come from kings. That authority did not come from divine right. But that legitimacy flowed from the people themselves. And yet—this was not just a political revolution. It was also a spiritual one. Because long before muskets were fired…ideas were already changing—in pulpits, in pamphlets, in quiet conversations about who we are and what we are capable of becoming. Much of our suffering comes from trying to control what was never ours to control: other people, their choices, and circumstances beyond our reach. Drawing from Buddhist wisdom, this service explores the practice of letting go, not as resignation, but as an act of clarity and compassion. Many adherents of the Abrahamic religions hold a belief that God, or the Divine, possesses unlimited power. This discourse will explore the many problematic implications of such a belief, especially at a time when our taking responsibility for addressing the challenges for our human and ecological communities has never been more urgent.
